About Us
Cedardale was set up in 1987 by two Arboricultural specialists, both having complested the O.N.D. course in Arboriclture at Merrist Wood College in 1982. Since that time Chris Kunesch, owner and Director of the company, has increased the work force to around 14 full time members of staff, a couple of hundred tonnes of equipment and an efficient and well equipped office manned by an office manager and two office administrators.
Crown Reduction
Crown reduction is better than completely taking the tree down and results in a more tidy compact shape to the tree.
Have your trees outgrown their space. Are they threatening to cause damage to power lines or nearby homes. Are they possibly becoming a traffic hazard.
The aesthetics of your desired landscaping image could possibly be negatively affected by an overgrown tree or collection of trees. We can reduce the size and girth of the crown of your trees to prevent any further or future damage.
Tree Stump Removal
When a tree is cut down, the stump remains. This can quickly become unsightly, taking up space that could be used for other plants. It may also be a breeding ground for unwanted fungi, which can infect other trees and shrubs.
Pollarding
Large tree species in urban areas were often planted because they were pollution tolerant. They were pollarded (where the head of main branches are cut back to promote a more bushy growth of foliage) to prevent them outgrowing their allotted space, casting shade, obstructing electric wires and streetlights or blocking gutters. With cleaner air a wider range of smaller species are less expensive to maintain. There are situations where pollarding may still be appropriate. Adjacent to main roads for example, large trees may be required to provide a tall clear stem.

Tall Hedge Trimming
A well managed hedge is a valuable addition to any garden. They are a haven for wildlife and are much "softer" on the eye than a bare fence. A regularly maintained hedge will outlast your average timber fence many times over.
LOLER AT CEDARDALE
The LOLER regulations came into force on the 5th of December 1998 and apply to all equipment used in Lifting Operations. In arboriculture this means climbing equipment, lowering equipment, and lifting platforms. Essentially the regulations require equipment lifting people (i.e. ropes, harness, karabiners etc., and Cherry pickers - MEWPs - mobile elevated work platforms) to be thoroughly inspected by a competent person at six monthly intervals, and lowering equipment to be similarly inspected at twelve monthly intervals. Most importantly, LOLER requires accurate records to be kept itemising every component and identifying it with a unique mark.
